Indecent Desires

Lisa Petrucci from Something Weird Video will be in attendance to introduce this supernatural Doris Wishman obscurity!

Doris Wishman is one of the most prolific female filmmakers of the 20th century (that most people have never heard of). She started by producing and directing nudist camp films in 1959, a time when the only way nudity could be shown in "adults only" films was by portraying naked ladies in wholesome non-sexual situations (her most famous of which was the silly sci-fi classic NUDE ON THE MOON)

By 1964, Doris followed the lead of her fellow exploiteers by making dramatic, black & white melodramas chock full of lurid pulp novel style sex and comic book-style violence, otherwise known as The Roughies. Her oeuvre between 1964-68 are among her best and most iconic films, capturing the unsettling sleazy side of the swinging Sixties. The hapless heroines are victims of circumstances beyond their control and there are no happy endings. During this period, Doris hit her stride by adding thematic gimmicks which set her films apart from those of her sexploitation contemporaries.

INDECENT DESIRES falls somewhere between horror and supernatural fantasy, with a voodoo doll theme and an emphasis on showing as much sin and skin as was allowed at the time. A creepy weirdo named Zeb (Michael Alaimo) becomes obsessed with Anne, a beautiful blonde secretary (Sharon Kent), who he sees walking down the street. He finds a pretty doll (that looks very much like the object of his desire) and a ring discarded in the trash. Before you know it, Anne is experiencing invisible hands caressing her lovely body! But his tender touches become increasingly aggressive when he discovers that she has a boyfriend and isn't ever going to be his. Unnerved by what's happening to her, Anne thinks she's losing her mind, especially when it becomes beyond violent and terrifying...
