Directed by MAD MAX creator George Miller in a long-awaited return to the series, 2015’s MAD MAX: FURY ROAD — in its gorgeous BLACK & CHROME edition, stripped of color — puts apocalyptic hero Mad Max (Tom Hardy) in the backseat to fierce warrior Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron), who mounts an escape from the tyrannical clutches of Immortan Joe to lead his five enslaved wives to safety in a land where plants grow. What ensues is a breathless, nonstop chase across the desert wasteland — all masterfully edited by Margaret Sixel, who won an Academy Award for her work on the film — culminating in a cathartic tale of crushing patriarchy and liberating women, land, and water.
