MMU Crash Course: One & Done

Four week class held at the Movie Madness Miniplex! $25 for Hollywood/Movie Madness members, $30 for non-members.

MMU Crash Course classes offer a low-intensity way to explore a filmmaker or genre, in a friendly environment shared with fellow film lovers. There’s no formal lecture or discussion, but films are curated and presented by staff experts. You’ll also receive some “homework,” suggested reading and other films to find related to the topic (all optional, of course!).

Some directors only have one feature film credit to their name. Sometimes these single films were career pivots for actors or crew members who wanted to try their hand at directing; others were passion projects brought to the screen with care and love by someone who put everything they had into bringing their dreams to life. These one-and-done efforts often leave us wondering what might’ve been if this director had been able to make another film—and sometimes the single film they left us with serves as proof that not everyone is prepared for the rigors of directing. Each week, our instructor will provide a brief introduction explaining a little more about the circumstances involved in the making of each film and what factors led to this being the sole film produced by the director.

Movies will be screened at the Movie Madness Miniplex (4320 SE Belmont). Classes will be held Mondays in May, starting May 9, at 7:00pm. Proof of vaccination and masks are required for all students and instructors. This class will be led by Hollywood Theatre staffer Sean Whiteman. Please email education@moviemadness.org for a full list of the titles we'll be screening.
