Women Directors in Horror (archive)

Four-week Movie Madness University class held Tuesdays in June at 7:00pm.

Though their contributions have often been overlooked, women have been part of the horror genre for as long as it has existed. In this course we’ll shine a spooky flashlight on four films from four women directors, showcasing four very different approaches to horror filmmaking. We’ll explore not only how the films were made, but how each artist traverses the genre in their own unique way.

(For a list of specific titles that will be featured in the course, please email education@moviemadness.org with “class titles” in the subject line.)

Movies will be screened at the Movie Madness Miniplex, followed by an instructor-led discussion. Classes will begin on June 7 and be held Tuesdays through June at 7:00pm. Proof of vaccination is required for all students and instructors.

Tuition is $75 for the four-week class, $60 for Hollywood Theatre/Movie Madness members. Class size will be limited to 18.

This class will be taught by MMU Lead Instructor Kia Anne Geraths, a filmmaker and educator. Her previous classes for MMU include Cult Horror of the ‘70s, ‘80s, & ‘90s; Women in Documentary Filmmaking; and more.
