On Thursday March 13th at 7:00pm, Rarely Seen 16mm presents
Mr. Adler and the Opera.
Retiring
San Francisco Opera General Director Kurt Adler is the main attraction
in this ultra-rare 16mm music documentary from 1981. Along with a
in-depth profile of the acclaimed Adler – the viewer is taken
behind-the-scenes of the San Francisco Opera – for a view into the
productions of “Aida”, starring opera greats soprano Leontyne Price and
tenor Luciano Pavarotti – and “Carmen” starring Placido Domingo. Also
featured is a performance by Pavarotti (in his prime) before an audience
of 20,000 at Golden Gate Park. A truly unique film for opera and
classical music lovers.
Rarely Seen 16mm is curated by Portland
film archivist Greg Hamilton – who digs into his personal collection of
hundreds of rare and unseen 16mm films, to create unique cinema
programming for film lovers and curiosity seekers alike. His previous
Hollywood Theatre film events include: SOMETIMES A GREAT NOTION, FAST
BREAK, THE MUSIC FILMS OF LES BLANK, BLACK ROSES, AUTOMORPHOSIS and
