Repressed Cinema: Girls of 42nd Street

Repressed Cinema presents a rare 35mm print of Andy Milligan’s GIRLS OF 42ND STREET with Milligan Biographer Jimmy McDonough in attendance!

GIRLS OF 42ND STREET (1973) Shot on location on gritty 42nd Street, Milligan presents us with a portrait of Dusty, a down and out working girl.  She does anything she can to get by, including ripping off johns. Can she find true love in her life with all the low life denziens she runs around with? Many consider this Milligan’s best surviving film.

Andy Milligan’s Biographer Jimmy McDonough will be speaking before the film and answering questions. McDonough is the author of “Big Bosoms and Square Jaws: The Biography Russ Meyer, King of the Sex Film ” and “Shakey: Neil Young’s Biography”. Jimmy’s also was one of the forces behind the original run of the notorious “Sleazoid Express”. Jimmy’s first book was “The Ghastly One: The Sex-Gore Netherworld of Filmmaker Andy Milligan” and it remains his favorite.

Before the feature there will be vintage Andy Milligan exploitation trailers. Bring your copy of “The Ghastly One” if you would like it signed. Underground Comics for sale in the lobby, as usual.
