Return to Oz

Take a trip back to Oz in 35mm! This one-night screening opens with a short presentation from local filmmaker Nick Boxwell, whose stop-motion film THE TIN WOODS brings new life to L. Frank Baum’s beloved Tin Woodsman.

1985’s RETURN TO OZ puts Fairuza Balk in the not-so-ruby slippers of Dorothy Gale, who Auntie Em (Piper Laurie) sends in for shock treatment after hearing stories of her first visit to Oz. Escaping from the hospital during a thunderstorm, Dorothy finds herself transported back to the magical land over the rainbow – but the Yellow Brick Road has turned to rubble, the Emerald City lies in ruins, and the Tin Woodsman and Cowardly Lion have turned to stone. With the help of new friends, Dorothy must battle the Nome King (Nicol Williamson) and the head-collecting Princess Mombi (Jean Marsh) to save Oz in this famously spooky sequel to one of the most beloved films of all time.
