The Hollywood Theatre presents a benefit screening of TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! JULIE NEWMAR in 35mm. 100% of proceeds go to The Living Room, a safe haven for GLBTQQ youth in Clackamas County. Stay after for a panel discussion on drag and gender with Portland drag all-stars moderated by Queer Horror’s Carla Rossi!
TO WONG FOO (1995) puts Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo in the heels of Vida Boheme, Noxeema Jackson, and Chi-Chi Rodriguez – three New York drag queens road-tripping to Hollywood for the Miss Drag Queen of America Pageant. When their Cadillac breaks down, the queens find themselves making-over a small town’s outfits as well as its hearts and minds. Co-starring Stockard Channing, Blythe Danner, and Beth Grant – plus a drag-star-studded opening sequence featuring Coco Peru, Lady Bunny, Joey Arias, and RuPaul – TO WONG FOO is as unexpectedly sincere, funny, and sweet as the painted ladies who lead it.
The Living Room believes that all youth deserve a safe place to be themselves, to be supported, and to be comfortable and accepted in their own skin. They provide support to GLBTQQ+ youth in Clackamas County through drop-in activities, events, school support, and community education. Find out more at TheLivingRoomYouth.org.
