”THOU SHALT NOT...”

Crime! Corruption! Debauchery! Between 1930 and 1934, Hollywood flouted the Production Code Administration’s rules regarding censorship and produced some of the most sensational films ever to be shown on the big screen. Also known as the “Pre-Code Era,” these films depicted the seedier side of humanity by exploring such topics as political corruption, sex, drug use, prostitution, and divorce - scenarios that would not be presented onscreen again with such honesty until the exploitation films of the 1970s. Programmed by Chantell Halsted, Hollywood Babylon revisits this fascinating period of time in which crime paid, corruption was necessary, and debauchery was just plain fun!
