Brother From Another Planet with Joe Morton

Series: Portland Black Film Festival

Post-screening Q&A with guest of honor Joe Morton!

BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET (1984): "The Brother" (Joe Morton) is a mute alien and escaped slave on the run from his home planet. After he lands in New York City, he tries to adapt to life on the streets of Harlem. As he tries to blend in with this new culture, he finds an apartment and gradually makes friends. Meanwhile, he is pursued by two white agents from his home world, who are intent on returning him there. Written and directed by John Sayles. 35mm preservation print courtesy of the UCLA Film & Television Archive.

Emmy Award- and NAACP Image Award-winning film, television, and stage veteran Joe Morton is best known for his dynamic role as Rowan Pope on the ABC series "Scandal." Morton is also widely recognized for playing the title character in John Sayles' film THE BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET and the ill-fated scientist Miles Dyson in TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY. His other film credits include AMERICAN GANGSTER, WHAT LIES BENEATH, BLUES BROTHERS 2000, and THE ASTRONAUT’S WIFE, among many others. Morton is also a huge proponent of diversity in Hollywood and uses his platform to express the need for more contemporary non-white roles in television and film.
